Starry Night - Paint Instructions
Step One: Transfer Patter
Trace and transfer pattern on to canvas, omitting the cypress tree (DO NOT TRACE THE CYPRESS TREE). Do this by placing the black carbon paper, dark side down, on the canvas. Lay the tracing facing right side up on the canvas. Use the back of your paint brush or a pencil to trace over the outline.
Step Two: Star
Use Chrome Yellow to paint stars. Rinse paint brush
Step Three: Sky
Load Cobalt Blue on to the paint brush. Paint the entire sky omitting the cloud. Rinse paint brush.
Step Four: Hill
Load paint brush with Violet paint and paint hill line. Use the same brush and load with Mars Black to paint the top of the hill line, working from top to down and blending into Violet as you go. Rinse paint brush.
Step Five: Valley
Load paint brush with Cobalt Blue paint. Paint the entire bottom of the canvas. Rinse paint brush
Step Six: Valley
Add Mars Black paint to the tip of the brush. Add a curvy hill line to the bottom of the Violet hill. Do not rinse the brush. Turn the paint brush on its side and paint diagonal lines.
Rinse Brush. Add Titanium White to the tip of the brush to repeat the diagonal lines. Rinse paint brush
Rinse Brush. Add Titanium White to the tip of the brush to repeat the diagonal lines. Rinse paint brush
Step Seven: Clouds
Add Cobalt Blue to the paint brush. Make dashes throughout the cloud
Step Eight: Cloud
On your plate, mix part Cobalt Blue with Chrome Yellow to create green. Add Titanium White to your green to create Aqua. Use the Aqua to make dashes throughout the cloud. Save the remainder of your Aqua for a later step. Use the Violet, then Mars Black, then Titanium White to make dashes in the clouds rinsing the brush in between color changes and at the end. Dashes should overlap. Rinse paint brush.
Step Nine: Clouds
Add both Cobalt Blue and White to your paint brush. Paint a wavy cloud above the hill. Rinse your brush and repeat this step with Titanium White, Chrome Yellow, and Titanium White/Chrome Yellow mix. Rinse paint brush.
Step Ten: Sky
Use the Aqua you created earlier in the painting to paint small, short dashes in the sky and around the stars. Rinse paint brush.
Step Eleven: Stars
Use Chrome Yellow to add short dashes around each star, radiating colors outward from the center. Do not rinse the paint brush. Add Tangelo Orange to your paint brush and repeat this step. Rinse paint brush.
Step Twelve: Village
Use the Aqua you created earlier in the painting to create houses by making short dashes vertically and horizontally. Rinse your paint brush. Add a SMALL amount of Mars Black to your paint brush to shade the houses. Rinse paint brush.
On your plate, mix Mars Black and Titanium White to create grey. Use this to create your rooftops. Rinse paint brush.

Step Thirteen: Village
Alternate between Chrome Yellow, Mars Black, and Titanium White to create windows in your houses. Rinse paint brush. Let your canvas dry completely before moving on to the next step. Rinse paint brush.
Step Fourteen: Cypress Tree
Using the carbon paper and outline, trace and transfer the cypress tree pattern onto the canvas. When tracing press down hard to help the pattern show up on the dark background.
Step Fifteen: Cypress Tree
Use Mars Black to fill in the tree. Rinse paint brush. Use Chrome Yellow, Tangelo Orange and Titanium White to add highlights to the tree. Rinse in between color changes and at the end.
